We hear the Christmas story every year. We know about Mary and Joseph, the manger, the shepherds, the angels, and the wise men. We know how the story ends. And because it is so familiar to us, it can be easy to read right through it without stopping to think about just how incredible the very first Christmas really was.
The Very First Christmas was written to help you slow down and take a closer look.
Christmas didn’t begin in Bethlehem. Long before Mary held Jesus in her arms, God had already put His plan of redemption into motion. Throughout this devotional, we will look at how God responded, how heaven responded, how the people responded, and finally, how we should respond to the birth of Christ today.
As we walk through Scripture together, we will see God’s faithfulness in fulfilling promises made generations before Jesus was born. We will watch heaven rejoice as God’s plan unfolded. We will look at the people who were there and the very different ways they responded when they encountered Jesus. Some worshiped, some obeyed, some sought Him, and some missed Him altogether.
Jesus came to dwell among us. He came to save us. And more than two thousand years later, the good news announced that very first Christmas is still just as worthy of our worship, gratitude, obedience, and joy.
